Marrama Elementary School

School Description

Marrama Elementary School is the original DPS school in Green Valley Ranch. It is an Early Childhood Education through 5th-grade school where individual success is paramount and remains an anchor of hope within the GVR community and a center for community engagement. Instruction is grounded in rigorous academic standards and research-based instructional strategies targeted to each student’s strengths. Our curriculum is enhanced through hands-on learning, student presentations, field trips, and assemblies that validate the student learning experience.

Learning Landscapes Description

The goal of this master plan is to create naturalized areas to act as buffers between age appropriate play areas, and other elements while celebrating the state’s history beginning with dinosaurs and progressing through the Conestoga wagon and mining periods to the present.

Master Plan

Vision

Three separate playgrounds, with their own equipment (ECE, Primary, and Intermediate) need to be established to provide a safe and fun environment at Marrama, while celebrating the states’ history. Integrating quiet/soft surface spaces between the different level playgrounds will act as a buffer as well as give the children a place to interact with the naturalized environment. This space is meant to be ambiguous in its nature, encouraging socialization and creative play. The walkway connecting the equipment zones will act as a time-line of the states’ history, beginning with the dinosaurs and progressing to the Conestoga wagons and mining period, onward to the technological era. All the existing equipment will need to be removed and replaced, due to its age and condition. Each piece of new equipment will be handicapped accessible, per DPS codes. The asphalt/hardscape areas will be broken up, providing greater interest and variety. Entrances and gates to the playground will be minimized, enhancing the safety of the students. An inviting gateway, located at the drop-off pullout, will signify the entrance to the playground.
