- To provide shade and protection from other elements.
- To improve recreational opportunities
- To create outdoor learning opportunities through play.
- To enlarge parking for elementary employees and visitors.
- To establish community connectedness as a prevalent condition throughout considerations of each.

Description from Architect
Cheltenham Elementary school was designed as a learning landscape, a design concept that incorporates participatory learning elements with recreational play. The site is adjacent to a major urban corridor, Colfax Ave., and a mixed use neighborhood. With this new design the site now acts as a park for a neighborhood previously a very urban area. The project scope included design development through project closeout.
