School Description
Asbury Elementary school is located in the University neighborhood in southeast Denver. Asbury serves portions of three neighborhoods: University, Rosedale and Platte Park. The school is bounded by Asbury Avenue on the north, Lafayette Street on the east, Evans Avenue on the south, and Marion Street on the west. Evans Avenue is a major east-west thoroughfare with two lanes in each direction and street parking on both sides. The closest major north-south thoroughfare is Downing Street, one block west of Asbury. The block to the north is single-family homes. The block to the east is mostly single-family homes with one commercial building near Evans.
Learning Landscapes Description
This historic 1920’s school has been a local landmark for generations and was inspiration for a plan to celebrate architectural history while creating a community gathering place and educational setting.

- Create a welcoming environment for the children, parents and community of Asbury.
- Engage children of all ages through opportunities for safe, creative and imaginative play.
- Celebrate the richness of the architectural history, uses, and variety of spaces.
- Redesign campus uses and systems to avoid conflicting patterns and increase usability.
